Real estate agents and brokerages: what an AI agent can and can't do with your software
- Last verified
- Updated Published
Who this is for: solo agents, teams and small brokerages who want to know which parts of their software an AI agent can work with today, and where the legal lines are before it sends anything. The first agent covered is Muse, Meta's personal agent with a small-business mode. Other agents can be added to the same tables later.
Every claim below links its source and carries the date we checked it.
How to read the status labels
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Confirmed by vendor | The software company or Meta says it in its own docs, help center, blog or press release. |
| Confirmed by the [agency] | A government agency says it on its own site, and the label names that agency (for example "Confirmed by the FCC" or "Confirmed by the HUD"). |
| Reported | A press outlet, trade association or independent site says it, and we haven't found it in the vendor's own material. |
| Conflicting | Sources disagree. We show both. |
| Unverified | We couldn't confirm it. Treat it as an open question. |
We haven't run these tasks ourselves. "The vendor says" doesn't mean "we tested it." See how we check.
The short version
- None of the big real estate CRMs is a built-in Muse connector. Follow Up Boss, BoldTrail (kvCORE), Lofty, Sierra Interactive and CINC weren't on Meta's Sept 29 list. HighLevel is. (Confirmed by vendor 1)
- HighLevel's official Muse app covers contacts, conversations, calendars and opportunities, and can send messages if you grant that scope. (Confirmed by vendor 4)
- BoldTrail and Lofty now ship their own AI connectors (MCP servers) for assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. (Confirmed by vendor 7 12) Follow Up Boss doesn't publish one. (Reported 11)
- If you run Facebook or Instagram ads for listings, Meta requires the housing Special Ad Category, which removes ZIP code, age, gender and lookalike targeting. (Confirmed by vendor 24 25)
- Fair housing advertising rules apply to anything an agent writes for you: no statement that indicates a preference or limitation based on a protected class. (Confirmed by the HUD 28 29)
- Nobody publishes independent market-share data for real estate CRMs. Vendors' own customer counts use different units (agents, teams, brokerages), so they can't be compared. Pick by the access rules in the stack map, not by size.

CRM and lead follow-up
| Tool you run | Built-in Muse connector? | Other route | Status and source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Follow Up Boss | No | Public REST API. Each user's API key has the same access as that user: an agent's key sees only that agent's contacts, a broker's key sees everyone. Anyone building for a Follow Up Boss customer must register their system. No official MCP; an independent company sells one. | Not on Meta's list: Confirmed by vendor 1 . API rules: Confirmed by vendor 10 . Third-party MCP: Reported 11 . Works inside Muse: Unverified . |
| BoldTrail FrontOffice (formerly kvCORE) | No | Official BoldTrail MCP launched Oct 13, 2026 for ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants: daily plan, contact search, notes, tasks, appointments, drafting and sending emails and texts, assigning campaigns. It uses the same permissions as the signed-in user. API tokens also exist. | Not on Meta's list: Confirmed by vendor 1 . MCP: Confirmed by vendor 7 8 . Tokens: Confirmed by vendor 6 . Works inside Muse: Unverified . |
| BoldTrail BackOffice | No | Official BackOffice MCP for transactions, commissions, compliance and reporting. BoldTrail says it can't move money or change bank details, and the broker decides who can use it. Rolling out in waves. | Confirmed by vendor 9 . Works inside Muse: Unverified . |
| Lofty | No | Official Lofty MCP server (September 2026), 18 tools covering all 123 API operations, for Claude or any MCP client. API keys are per user, can expire and be revoked, and can be limited per resource. | MCP: Confirmed by vendor 12 . Keys: Confirmed by vendor 13 . Works inside Muse: Unverified . |
| Sierra Interactive | No | API key generated by an account admin. Sierra says API access may depend on your plan. Zapier and API Nation are named routes, and Zapier lists a Sierra MCP. | API: Confirmed by vendor 14 . Zapier MCP: Reported 32 . |
| CINC | No | OAuth Public API for registered developers. Each scope says it currently works only for agents with broker-level status. Zapier is available on the Ramp, Pro and Select plans. | Confirmed by vendor 16 |
| Wise Agent | No | Partner-only API: Wise Agent says it doesn't issue API credentials to individual teams or agents. Zapier, lead email and a WordPress plugin are its suggested routes. | Confirmed by vendor 15 |
| Real Geeks | No | Real Geeks AI Connect links your website (pages, content, settings) to Claude or ChatGPT. It can't read or change leads or CRM data. Only the site owner can connect it. | Confirmed by vendor 17 |
| HighLevel | Yes | Official Muse app, connected by OAuth to the sub-accounts and scopes you approve. Review connected apps in HighLevel under Settings > Connected Apps. | Confirmed by vendor 1 4 5 |
Transactions, contracts and listings
| Tool you run | Built-in Muse connector? | Other route | Status and source |
|---|---|---|---|
| dotloop | No | Public API v2 with OAuth. You request developer access from dotloop. Limit of 100 requests per minute per user. No MCP found in dotloop's docs. | Confirmed by vendor 18 |
| SkySlope | No | Partnership API (OAuth) covering files, documents, envelopes and MLS data import, aimed at partners. No MCP found in SkySlope's docs. | Confirmed by vendor 19 |
| Lone Wolf (transactions, forms, back office) | No | APIs on request through the Lone Wolf API portal; its deals API is labelled for partner integrations. The "MCP" on its docs site only helps developers read the docs; it doesn't connect to your account. | Confirmed by vendor 20 |
| Docusign | No | Docusign said its MCP server opens to every AI agent on Sept 30, 2026, naming Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Slack and any MCP client. Muse isn't named. | Confirmed by vendor 21 . Works inside Muse: Unverified . |
| MLS and IDX data | No | Governed by your MLS's rules and data license, not by the AI tool. NAR says each MLS assesses AI tools itself. | Reported 22 |
Email, calendar, design and ads
| Tool you run | Built-in Muse connector? | Other route | Status and source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gmail | Yes | n/a | Confirmed by vendor 2 |
| Google Calendar | Yes | n/a | Meta mentions calendar connectors: Confirmed by vendor 2 . Google Calendar by name: Reported 31 . |
| Outlook mail and calendar | Reported yes | n/a | Reported 31 . Not named in Meta's own help or launch post. |
| Canva | Yes | n/a | Confirmed by vendor 1 |
| Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts | Yes | n/a | Confirmed by vendor 1 |
What "custom connector" means here: Muse lets you add a connector Meta hasn't built, stores its credentials in a Secure Credentials Store, and Meta says it doesn't review custom connectors. (Confirmed by vendor 2) You (or someone you hire) are responsible for what it can see and do, and your CRM's own rules still apply. For example, Follow Up Boss requires any system serving a Follow Up Boss customer to register and identify itself on every request. (Confirmed by vendor 10)
On market share: NAR's 2026 technology survey of members found 96% use their MLS, 79% e-signature, 46% a CRM and 36% transaction management software. (Reported 23) That's a survey of tool categories, not CRM market share. Inside Real Estate, for example, counts "over 400,000 top brokerages, agents, and teams" (Confirmed by vendor 7) , a mix of units no other vendor's number lines up with.
Jobs you could hand off today (per vendor docs)
| Job | Tool | What the vendor says | Status and source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Find leads you haven't contacted and draft follow-ups | HighLevel in Muse | HighLevel says the Muse app can retrieve and update contacts and conversations and send messages, depending on the scopes you grant | Confirmed by vendor 4 |
| Book or move showings and consults | HighLevel in Muse | HighLevel lists calendars among the services the Muse app covers | Confirmed by vendor 4 |
| Morning plan: who to call, tasks due, appointments | BoldTrail MCP (ChatGPT, Claude) | Inside Real Estate names a daily plan, contact search, notes, tasks and appointment booking | Confirmed by vendor 7 8 . In Muse: Unverified |
| Check transaction status, commissions and compliance items | BoldTrail BackOffice MCP | BoldTrail lists transactions, commissions, compliance and reporting | Confirmed by vendor 9 |
| Prepare an e-signature package for your review | BoldTrail BackOffice MCP | BoldTrail says it pulls the documents, prefills the forms and lines up signers; you place the signature fields and see every signer and email before anything is sent | Confirmed by vendor 9 |
| Search contacts, log notes and tasks | Lofty MCP | Lofty documents 18 tools over its full API; sending a message always asks for confirmation and shows the recipient count and full text | Confirmed by vendor 12 |
| Draft listing graphics and social posts | Canva and Facebook Pages in Muse | Both are on Meta's connector list | Confirmed by vendor 1 |
| Update pages on your Real Geeks site | Real Geeks AI Connect (Claude, ChatGPT) | Real Geeks says the assistant can create pages and update content and settings | Confirmed by vendor 17 |
Meta says nothing publishes, sends or spends without your approval. (Confirmed by vendor 1) Meta's connector rules treat actions like sending an email or making a purchase as "sensitive writes" that need approval each time and can't be set to always allow. (Confirmed by vendor 3) Read what the agent drafted before you approve a send.
Keep these out
- Money. Meta says it isn't approving new Muse tools that move money between financial accounts. (Confirmed by vendor 3) BoldTrail's BackOffice MCP can't move money or change bank-account details. (Confirmed by vendor 9) Keep earnest money, commission disbursements and wire instructions with people.
- Broad CRM keys. A broker's Follow Up Boss key sees every contact in the account, and the key has the same privileges as the user's login. (Confirmed by vendor 10) Use the narrowest user you can.
- Keys handed to outside vendors. Lofty tells customers not to share API keys with external vendors or third parties, and older keys have no resource limits. (Confirmed by vendor 13) Lofty also says any MCP connection that can read can also write, because there's no read-only scope yet. (Confirmed by vendor 12)
- Tokens you think you deleted. BoldTrail says deleting an API token is a soft delete: the token stays active for a year. It also says a Contacts token poses a potential risk of exposing sensitive data. (Confirmed by vendor 6)
- MLS data outside its license. NAR says AI tools must follow MLS rules and data license agreements, data can't go to unauthorized parties, and local IDX display rules still apply. (Reported 22) Ask your MLS before you paste or pipe listing data into any agent.
What the agent can't do (per the vendors)
- Real Geeks AI Connect can't read or change your leads or CRM data. It covers the website only. (Confirmed by vendor 17)
- Wise Agent won't issue API credentials to an individual agent or team, so there's no self-serve custom connector route. (Confirmed by vendor 15)
- CINC's API scopes currently work only for agents with broker-level status. (Confirmed by vendor 16)
Risks to know before an agent sends anything for you
- Texts and calls. The FCC says autodialed texts need the recipient's prior consent, commercial texts need written consent, people can opt out at any time in any reasonable way, and AI-generated voice calls are illegal unless the person agreed to receive them or the caller is exempt. These rules apply even if the number isn't on the Do Not Call list. (Confirmed by the FCC 26) A "just listed" blast to your database is marketing; check consent first.
- Email. CAN-SPAM covers commercial email, including business-to-business email. The FTC's guide says: no false header information or deceptive subject lines, identify the message as an ad, include a valid physical postal address, give a clear way to opt out, honor opt-outs within 10 business days, and keep the opt-out working for at least 30 days. Penalties run up to $53,088 per email. (Confirmed by the FTC 27)
- Fair housing in everything the agent writes. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in selling or renting housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or disability. HUD says it's illegal to make, print or publish any statement about a sale or rental that indicates a preference, limitation or discrimination based on those characteristics, and that this advertising rule applies even to housing that is otherwise exempt. (Confirmed by the HUD 28 29) Phrases an AI might reach for, like "perfect for young couples" or "great for empty nesters," need a human read.
- HUD's 2024 guidance on digital ads was withdrawn. NAHRO reported on Apr 3, 2026 that HUD was withdrawing eight fair housing guidance documents, including its guidance on advertising housing through digital platforms. (Reported 30) HUD's own Fair Housing Act page links a Notice of Withdrawal of FHEO Guidance Documents. (Confirmed by the HUD 28) The law itself didn't change.
- Facebook and Instagram housing ads. Meta requires the housing Special Ad Category for US advertisers and US audiences. In that category you can't target by ZIP code or exclude locations, city and address targeting expands to a 15-mile radius, age is fixed at 18 to 65+, all genders are included, and lookalike audiences aren't available. Ads that should use the category but don't may be rejected. (Confirmed by vendor 24 25) If an agent drafts or launches a campaign through your ad account, check the category first.
- MLS rules. NAR says each MLS decides whether an AI tool meets its rules, and the participant must stay in control of the data. (Reported 22)
This is general information, not legal advice. Your state license law, your brokerage's policies and your MLS rules may add more.
