FCC opt-out rule changes on November 25, 2026
- Updated Published
The FCC's final rule, published October 26, 2026 in the Federal Register (FR Doc. 2026-21821, 91 FR 67214), takes effect November 25, 2026. It rewrites 47 CFR 64.1200(a)(10) through (a)(12): senders may make one of three listed opt-out methods their exclusive one if they disclose it, an opt-out from an informational message can be limited to that category, and the confirmation text rule is loosened. Each page below now gives the rule as it stands until that date and as it reads from then.
Updated:
- Auto repair shops: what an AI agent can and can't do with your software: the summary of paragraphs (a)(10) and (a)(12) is now dated, and the page explains the new rule's exclusive opt-out method, opt-outs from informational messages that can be treated as limited to that type, and the confirmation text without its one-time wording.
- Cleaning and janitorial: what an AI agent can and can't do with your software: the line saying a sender can't insist on one opt-out method now stops at November 25, and a client's "cancel" to a reminder may, from then, end only reminder texts.
